The Free TAFE Agreement establishes shared funding arrangements between the Commonwealth and states and territories to support the delivery of at least 100,000 Free TAFE and vocational education and training (VET) places each year over 2027 to 2031.
Free TAFE provides cost-of-living relief, prioritising access for those who typically face barriers to education, training and work, while supporting study in areas of high workforce demand and emerging skills needs. It puts TAFE and other public training providers at the centre of the VET sector, while recognising the important role of other training providers.
It is underpinned by the Free TAFE Act 2025.
