The 10-year Remote Housing Northern Territory Schedule will support significant progress against Closing the Gap, including the Priority Reforms and Outcome 9: People can secure appropriate, affordable housing that is aligned with their priority and need. The agreement will specifically reduce overcrowding and improve housing quality by delivering up to 2,700 houses over 10-years and a comprehensive repairs and maintenance program.
The Partnership Agreement for Remote Housing and Homelands was developed with and signed by the Australian and Northern Territory Governments, the four Northern Territory Land Councils and Aboriginal Housing Northern Territory in June 2024. The Partnership Agreement embeds shared decision making in the implementation of the agreements and commits all parties to working together to improve housing outcomes in remote NT communities and homelands.
