The National Housing and Homelessness Agreement [PDF 1.55MB | DOCX 146KB] recognises the Commonwealth and the states' and territories' mutual interest in improving housing outcomes across the housing spectrum, including outcomes for Australians who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, and need to work together to achieve those outcomes.
Background
From 1 July 2018 the National Affordable Housing Specific Purpose Payment was replaced by National Housing and Homelessness Agreement funding and maintains the funding associated with the National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness. The National Housing and Homelessness Agreement also replaces the National Affordable Housing Agreement [PDF 240KB | RTF 212KB].
Extension
The Commonwealth and the states and territories agreed a 12 month extension of the bilateral schedules to the NHHA for 2023-24. The extension provides further time to work with states and key stakeholders to implement the Government's housing agenda. The Commonwealth has advised the states and territories of its intention to terminate the NHHA from 30 June 2024 and is working towards developing new arrangements.
